Frequently Asked

Here is a bunch of questions I regularly am asked. Hopefully this answers some of your questions as well.  If you have any questions beyond these, PLEASE do ask!

1. I have tried everything.  Is working with you for massage and health counseling really going to help me?  Nothing has.

This is a big question. One which requires more then a few words on a website FAQ.  I invite all clients to have a conversation with me about this mono-a-mono.  I understand the frustration and fatigue spinning your wheels creates. What I have found in my many years of working with people is 1) you probably *haven’t* tried every possible solution; we can’t blame ourselves for not knowing what we don’t know, and sometimes our solutions are very one sided.  Let’s get creative! 2) sometimes we stop doing what we need to do right before we turn that corner and start flying toward the end zone. It’s about tweaking our routine, keeping our discipline, and having someone hold you accountable that can change the outcome dramatically. 3) There are so many factors to success in healing. I always integrate body work, nutrition, and lifestyle practices to ensure you have everything you need to succeed!

2. I’ve had massage therapy before and it hurt like Hell.  Is it supposed to be like that?

My opinion and experience: NO. NOPE. NEGATIVO! It’s a common myth that more is better, but when it comes to the human body, more is just more and usually that isn’t a good thing.  The the Arndt-Schultz Law tells us less is more and more is not effective.   Sorry, but I call BS on many deep tissue practices.  “DEEP” is a location, not an amount of pressure.  My techniques allow us to gain access to the deepest layers of tissue without  discomfort and excessive tissue damage.  I honor the body and work with it’s natural processes.  I am not in the business of damaging people’s tissue.  No more massage masochism.

3. How long is this going to take? Do I have to see you for the rest of my life?

Healing is not a black or white issue. There are many factors which influence the healing process (which we will address!) that determines how fast or slow this process takes.  Personal responsibility is huge.  I can’t emphasize this enough.  I can provide you with a ton of solutions, but sadly, I can’t DO them for you. I want you to succeed! If you’ve been struggling with an injury or stress for a really long time, it’s going to take longer to regain your balance than if it’s a fresh injury or health challenge.  You do your work, you speed up the process.  I always tell my clients, on average, it takes 4-5 sessions to really see the improvement we are looking for. If we aren’t seeing improvement we talk about referring out.  Beyond that… How long? A lot of it is up to you.

4. Does my insurance cover working with you?

I could get on my Soapbox and rail at this for days!  Here’s the deal with insurance: Many insurance companies pay for a certain number of therapeutic massages a year, up to a certain percentage of the cost, depending on your personal policy.  At this time, in the state of Illinois, I have yet to find an insurance company that pays for massage who will cover working with me. WHY? Because I work for myself. I am in private practice. The issue isn’t if they will pay for service or not…but is a matter of who my boss is.  It’s BS.

That being said, I will be more than happy to talk you through the steps needed to receive insurance reimbursement on your behalf. It’s a process, and an uncertain one at that, but your policy is an agreement between you and your insurance provider, not me and your insurance provider.  Our work together is between you and me, and I don’t want an insurance company telling me how best to do my job (which, yes, they do get bossy like that; just ask your MD).  I have many clients who use their FSA accounts to pay for their massage treatments with great success.  We can always have a more in depth conversation when we start working together.

I do guarantee you the best of the best in the massage therapy world.  I’m not fresh out of school and still trying to figure out what I am doing.  I got you covered, even if your insurance doesn’t.

5. How much do you cost?

Too many options for an FAQ!  My work is completely customizable and your goals determine the best course of action. We need to discuss this one together to ensure you are receiving exactly what you need.  Please also visit the Services and Packages & Programs tabs on the menu bar.
